***WARNING*** The following DVDs - Winternachtstraum and Black Box BRD do NOT contain English language options.***
Winter Night's Dream (1992)
Inka Köhler-Rechnitz was offered a theatre engagement in Görlitz after graduating from acting school in the 1920s, but her husband would not let her pursue her career. Sixty years later her spirit and determination bring her back to the stage. A challenge for both, her and Andres Veiel!
Balagan (1994)
Three actors work together to develop a five hour play from their personal experiences. Khaled, a Palestinian comes from a family who has been living in Israel for 8 generations; Madi, a jewish woman has a father who almost died in the Sobibor destruction camp; Moni is the son of Iraki Jews and himself is a follower of the orthodox Jewish religion.
The Survivors (1996)
When Veiel's classmates gather for a reunion in the mid-90s, three of them are already dead, having committed suicide. Veiel talks to those who 'survived' them and carefully pieces together their lives creating a compelling portrait of a generation.
Black Box Germany (2001)
This documentary by German filmmaker Andres Veiel takes a look back at German politics of the '70s and '80s, a troubled era when the government was engaged in a war against the leftist movement known as the Red Army Fraction. The conflict is addressed by focusing on the lives and deaths of two men whose fates became tragically intertwined in 1989. Alfred Herrenhausen was a high-ranking member of the Deutsche Bank who was killed by a Red Army Fraction bomb attack. Wolfgang Grams, a radical activist, was a major suspect in the attack. Four years later, he was tracked down by police and killed. Through interviews with relatives, friends, and colleagues of both men, a clear picture of the times emerges. While the film makes no attempts to place blame or assign guilt, it does raise many questions about German politics today.
Addicted to Acting (2004)
Follows four young actors at Berlin's Ernst Busch school of drama as they gain maturity as professionals and individuals.
