High in the Allgäu mountains, three things abound: fresh air, dairy cows, and an unparalleled sense of belonging. Near Oberstdorf, herds graze on their pastures until they are driven to the next lush meadow. The alpine culture is particularly palpable in summer. In harmony with nature and the weather, the world up here seems larger and freer, and a feeling of contentment and happiness spreads through the soul, even though hard physical labor is part of everyday life. Four groups offer a glimpse into their very special world in the documentary "At Home in the Mountains": the shepherds on the Taufersberg, the dairy farming family of the Sölleralp, the alpine character of Oberau, and the Kemptnerhütte on the E5 long-distance hiking trail.
