Synopsis:
Arthur Kirkland, an idealistic defense attorney in Baltimore, cares about his clients and visits his aging grandfather, who put him through law school, every week. Things aren't going well for Arthur: two of his clients are increasingly desperate, neither should be in prison, his partner is behaving bizarrely, he's begun an affair with an attorney who's on the bar's disciplinary committee, his favorite judge may have a death wish, and then, the judge he dislikes most, a by-the-book martinet, demands that Arthur defend him when he's accused of a brutal assault on a young woman. Is there any way to expose real corruption and find justice for all?

Satirical drama blending comedy and tragedy. Arthur Kirkland is a civil rights lawyer struggling within the US legal system, which he repeatedly finds is complacent about miscarriages of justice. In his bid to help clients in desperate situations, Arthur encounters a judge with an apparent death wish (Judge Rayford), a stickler who cares about deadlines more than about justice (Judge Fleming), a committee member (Gail) whose notion of ethics clashes with his own but who is still happy to date him, and a colleague (Jay) whose own success getting the guilty to go free catches up with him and makes him go crazy. When Kirkland is asked to defend a judge against a rape charge, he begins to see how deep the murky corruption of the system really goes. (Synopsis)
