Through "master" style interviews, they're personally taking viewers on the journey through mass rescues, resuscitations, shark sightings and all of the weird and wonderful experiences Bondi dishes up. No longer framed by narration, lifeguards who are normally considered 'strong and silent' are revealing a side of themselves we've never been privy to before. Along with familiar favourites Hoppo, Deano, Reidy, Maxi, Harries and Whippet, there's a new trainee - 19-year-old "Taco" - a carefree surfer who's never had a full-time job before. It's a steep learning curve on a beach that hosts 2.5 million visitors a year and as many as 40,000 a day. This season, we see the wettest Christmas Day in 70 years, the busiest New Year's Day on record (including a shark that spoils the celebrations), the biggest cyclone swell in recent memory and Sydney's hottest day ever. Plus there's the usual cast of colourful characters including a violent bag thief, a honourary lifeguard from Cabramatta, a man who loses his false teeth, a tourist who claims her baby has been abducted and a beachgoer hell bent on making a citizens' arrest.
