Synopsis:
The action takes place in Valence during the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th Century, years of great social changes. The city of Valence becomes one of the main characters of the story. The everyday life of Valencian society of this time interweaves the plot of the film. The people trying to show off in their everyday social relationships at traditional festivals and markets make us go into the personality of an emerging city during beginning of the 20th Century.

This excellent mini-series portrays the Valencian society of the late 19th century and early 20th century. 'Arroz y tartana' is technically outstanding, specially concerning art direction, costume design and music. Although Escrivá is no Scorsese, I was often reminded of a personal favorite, 'The Age of Innocence', a picture that shares many of its main topics with 'Arroz y tartana'.
