Synopsis:
One of the most renowned directors of Catalan cinema, Ventura Pons explores the themes of aging, relationships and loyalties in a strong psychological drama which uses the will written by an ailing man as a catalyst for the true emotions of others to surface. Jaume Clara (Joseph Maria Pou), a professor of medieval literature, is getting old. Sensing that his time is near, he thinks back on his life and reflects on what he can leave behind for those he loves. He writes his will in essay form, loosely based on Ramon Llull's Book of Friends and the Beloved, and stores it in his computer. The reactions he provokes from the people involved are quite different than what he expected. His best friend Pere (Mario Gas) is disturbed by the will and thinks it must be Jaume's fear of death that has prompted him to write such a thing. David (David Selvas), his brightest student, refuses to be Jaume's heir at the expense of his freedom. Meanwhile, Pere is having family problems involving his wife and his daughter. Five people have to face up to the idea of Jaume's death, a painful process that does not spare anyone's feelings. As war breaks among the five, it is hard to know who are the winners and the losers.

A mature and ill man, a medieval literature professor, has gone over his personal life and has decided, amongst his doubts, what he wants to leave others once he passes away. An inheritance in the form of an essay, based on Llull's The book of the Friend and the Beloved, which he has saved in the memory of his personal computer. His best and oldest friend is bothered by an inheritance that could be contaminated by the fear of death. The best and most recent of his students does not want to be his heir, as he wants to keep his dark and ambiguous freedom. That best and oldest friend is married and has a daughter. He is an almost happy man, as long as things go well, who is so and so loved by his wife... Unfortunately, his daughter, on the other hand, visits them to talk about a slight problem. But, is she the one who really has problems?

The five characters, in an almost race against the clock, argue, struggle and hurt each other, everyone against everyone, while at the same time they discover mutually the roots of their affection, their passion, and almost traumatically reconsider their future. A completely incomprehensible future, but on which, depending upon who, depends salvation. A battle. But, where are the victors, where are the defeated?

A sick homosexual Middle Ages literature professor decides to leave as a heritage "Blanquerna", by Ramon Llull, for a young and intelligent pupil.
