Synopsis:

Blue Corner is a story on how coincidence and whim often mould people's fates more than their will and reason. The main character of the film is PK, a sports-fanatic single father. PK, an old man, is lonely but does not see it since he is only living for his two sons, both of whom are boxers. The reason for PK's loneliness lies in his past that he does not talk about. It has been forgotten and become a taboo. But can one just forget and start living through another person without losing oneself?

A bittersweet look at the way men take refuge in sports, to the detriment of their full development as husbands and fathers, "Blue Corner" features quirky characters at odds with each others' needs. Distinctive Nordic blend of humor and emotional discomfort permeates this nicely thesped venture about three generations of boxers in a Finnish town. Fifth feature by Matti Ijas ("Blindfolded," 1999; "Lyrics and Lace," 1992) is rewarding fest fare.
