Synopsis:
Many ordinary men and women became heroes on July 30, 1997 when four thousand tons of earth crashed down on two ski lodges in Thredbo village, one of Australia's premier ski resorts. With the injured inaccessible, and the mountain flooded with mud, leaking gas and concrete slabs that threatened to crush all attempts at rescue, local ski instructor Stuart Diver was miraculously discovered 65 hours later deep below the surface in freezing mud and water. Stuart had refused to die. Heroes' mountain traces the disaster from the night of the landslide to the incredible rescue of the sole survivor. Not only celebrating one man's refusal to die, this moving and gripping telemovie pays tribute to the professionalism, courage and dedication of the rescuers in the face of a horrific tragedy.

On 30th July 1997 at Thredbo Australia 60 people where buried alive by a snowslide. One of those men, Stuart Diver, managed to stay alive. With the rescuers working tireless to find survivors Diver was trying to let them know that he was alive, buried under the rubble. After a massive 65 hours in the freezing temperatures, wearing only his under wear, Stuart Diver was the only person to be pulled from the rubble.

The story of Stuart Diver, the only person to survive the 1997 Thredbo tragedy that came about when a landslide engulfed a ski lodge situated in the Snowy Mountains.
