Synopsis:
David, a recently fired scrapyard worker and Marie, a prostitute, both about 20 years old, meet on New Year's Eve in Berlin and decide to run away together. As David's arm is plastered from an accident Marie continues to prostitute herself to finance their restless journey through the Ruhr area. Their love and their will to survive guide them though all problems.

A road movie and a love story wrapped into one and told in the director's unique and visually inventive style. David and Marie's relationship is played out to a soporific soundtrack that features moving contributions from Yo La Tengo and Calexico, as well as from Velvet Underground that perfectly captures the couples fragility.

To call this an emotional rollercoaster might be the understatement of the year. This film about young lovers begins with Marie - a 'lady of the night' - meeting David, and the two finding a connection in each other's loneliness. The two hit the road together, fall in love, and the whole way are accompanied by fantastic cinematography and music - pretty much meeting my highest expectations when it comes to a film's mood and atmosphere. The highs and lows of their relationship, while often painful to watch (especially thanks to Sabine Timoteo's scary, realistic portrayal of a series of emotional breakdowns) are a central key to the film, and help pave the way to a mini-salvation for this couple.
