Synopsis:
We Reinvent the Circus (1992)
While some will quibble with the visual design of Cirque du Soleil (a mutant hybrid of a Renaissance harlequinade and the Vegas excess of Liberace or Siegfried and Roy), there's no arguing about the physical prowess of the performers; the acrobatic feats are simply astonishing. Cirque du Soleil: Cirque Reinvente (We Reinvent the Circus) features dazzling dexterity on tightropes, trapezes, bicycles, and the bodies of other performers; impeccable clowning; and a contortionist of truly inhuman flexibility who can walk upside down on her hands and knees in an uncannily spiderlike fashion. Though Cirque du Soleil's spectacle is best experienced live, these particular pieces translate surprisingly well to video.
La Magie continue (1986)
With exquisite costumes and illusory lighting, this event transports the viewer into the three-ring extravaganza of acrobats, jugglers, and clowns. A progressing saga of trademark theatre, this episode maintains the inventive tradition of the Cirque Du Soliel with their ongoing pursuit of continuing the magic.
Nouvelle expérience (1991)
The brilliant artistry of Cirque du Soleil has transformed the circus into an exciting, novel performance experience. Nouvelle Experience celebrates the magic of their innovative techniques and the genius of one of the most visionary groups of artists in the world. Included in the show that toured for 19 months in 1990-1991, performing to over 1.3 million people: Contortion, Korean Plank, Solo Trapeze, Tightrope, Aerial Straps, Acrobatics, Trampoline and Balancing on Chairs
Saltimbanco (1997)
Saltimbanco is a celebration of life in which an international troupe of more than fifty performers ranging from eight to 45 years of age defy gravity and dazzle with their artistry. A panoply of acts in which top-notch acrobatics are executed with masterly beauty, hand-balancing, double trapeze, double tightrope, Chinese poles, the Russian swing, bangees, jugglers, and clowns. Created in 1994 as an antidote to the violence and despair typical of the 20th century, this phantasmagorical show proposes a new vision of urbanity, overflowing with optimism and happiness. Saltimbanco is not linear; rather, it is a kaleidoscope, an adventure in which anything can happen. Saltimbanco has its own language, a soul expressed through the voice, the body and music.
