Synopsis:
Elevator to the Gallows/Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (1958): In this, his debut feature film, director Louis Malle captures the hidden beauty of Jeanne Moreau, the brilliant camerawork of Henri Decae, and the musical force of Miles Davis in a tightly constructed film noir experience that launched his and Moreau's careers.
The Fire Within/Le Feu Follet (1963): Maurice Ronet stars as an alcoholic writer who, upon leaving a drying-out clinic, decides to commit suicide. He elects to visit all his friends to see if they can provide him with a reason to live.
The Lovers/Les Amants (1958): A classic nouvelle vague exploration of human relationships. Jeanne Moreau appears as a bored bourgeois housewife in this study of sexual yearnings.
Zazie in the Subway/Zazie Dans Le Metro (1960): A precocious young brat takes a day trip to Paris and leaves chaos, anarchy and utter confusion in her wake!

Elevator to the Gallows (1958)
A self-assured business man murders his employer, the husband of his adulterer, which unintentionally provokes an ill-fated chain of events.
The Fire Within (1963)
Life has become unbearably painful for Alain who is in his early 30s. He once used alcohol to dull the pain. His estranged wife in New York has paid for a cure at a clinic in Versailles and sends an emissary, one of the many woman he has known, to see how Alain is. She sees only the surface as does his doctor, who says it's time for Alain to leave the clinic. He goes to Paris the next morning and has lunch with old friends, a rendezvous in a cafe and is invited to a dinner party. Will Alain make a connection that will change his mind about ending it all?
The Lovers (1958)
Bored with her husband, bored with her polo-playing lover, will the middle-aged heroine go away with the young man who gave her a lift that day when her car broke down on the way back to her country estate from a weekend with her lover in Paris?
Zazie in the Subway (1960)
This merry farce depicts a satirical view of the French society: Twelve years old Zazie has to stay two days with her relatives in Paris, so that her mother can spend some time with her lover. However Zazie escapes her uncle's custody and sets out to explore Paris on her own.
