Synopsis:

Vacas (Cows):

In Basque country, feuds, governments, and wars come and go, while cows placidly observe the strange behaviors of the humans who care for them. In 1875, during a massacre inspired by an out-of-control family feud, a farmer and his friend find themselves in a ditch together. One of them dies, and the other survives by playing possum using his friend's blood as a disguise. As the film flashes forward in time, the man is now a grandfather who amuses himself by painting the tranquil gaze of cows over and over again, while he observes that his son is having an affair with his dead friend's granddaughter. Finally, during the Civil War in 1936, violence again mars the life of the family, as the illegitimate son of the earlier affair attempts to make headway with his life.

La Ardilla roja (The Red Squirrel):

Jota is about to commit suicide. As he fighting against himself, trying to jump off a bridge, a girl riding a motorcycle falls off the bridge. He runs to help her, and goes with her to the hospital. She has forgotten even what her name is, and he invents her life. He makes up a name for her and tells her and the doctors that they live together as a couple for four years. The lie goes on for a while...

Tierra ( The Land):

Dressed in blinding white, carrying a strange pack upon his back and a toxin-spewing wand, comes exterminating Angel and his similarly clad army to the scorched, crimson earth of Aragon wine country, to destroy the insects that give the wine it's unique flavor. There Angel fines himself falling in love with a homely cuckolded wife Angela who only stays with her cheating husband for her daughter's sake. He also falls for the town's teenage tramp, the white-hot black-leather wearing Mari, who falls in love with him after one passionate night. This off-beat Spanish romance, made with a dash of cosmic pretensions, chronicles his relationships with the two women while also dealing with his strange relationship to his alter ego who may or may not be, an angel.

Los Amantes del Círculo Polar (The Lovers of the Arctic Circle):

Otto and Ana are kids when they meet each other. Their names are palindromes. They meet by chance, people are related by chance. A story of circular lives, with circular names, and a circular place (Círculo polar) where the day never ends in the midnight sun. There are things that never end, and Love is one of them.

Lucía y el sexo (Sex and Lucia):

Lucia is a young Madrid waitress who is devastated at the loss of her writer boyfriend Lorenzo. Hoping to flee her troubles, she seeks out a beautiful island paradise her dead lover often talked about. There she meets and befriends Carlos and Elena who are also refugees of personal tragedies. Unbeknownst to all of them, the three each have a connection to Lorenzo. Years previously, Elena had a spontaneous fling with Lorenzo on the same island on the beach.

Caótica Ana (Chaotic Ana):

'Caotica Ana is the story-journey of Ana during four years of her life, from 18 to 22. A countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7... until 0, like in hypnosis, through which Ana proves that she does not live alone, that her existence seems like a continuation of other lives of young women who died in a tragic way, all at the age of 22, and who live in the abyss of her unconscious memory. This is her chaos. Ana is the princess and the monster of this feminist fable against the tyranny of the white man.'

Vacas (Cows):

Biscay, Basque Country, 1875. For decades Spain has been the scene of the Carlist Wars, civil wars, of which the third and final now draws to a conclusion. On the Carlist front sergeant Carmelo Mendiluce hears his fellow villager Manuel Irigibel has arrived as a new soldier. The rookie seems pretty afraid and when the enemy attacks Carmelo tries to help him. But Manuel is a coward and due to his cowardliness Carmelo dies. To escape the war, he uses Carmelo's blood to pretend he's killed. Manuel's act is the start of a long period of rivalry and hatred between the Irigibel and Mendiluce families. 1915, however, is the time of a new generation, the generation of Peru Irigibel and Cristina Mendiluze.

Lucía y el sexo (Sex and Lucia):

In Madrid of the present days, the waitress Lucia (Paz Vega) leaves her job and goes to her apartment to meet her mate Lorenzo (Tristian Ulloa), who seems to be very depressed. When she arrives, she receives bad news about Lorenzo from the police. She moves alone to an isolated island, where she meets a stranger and lodges in a pension where he is living for the last months. The story shifts to six years ago, when Lorenzo and a woman, without knowing even the name of each other, have a magnificent sexual intercourse. The woman gets pregnant, and her daughter is raised with out a father. Meanwhile, Lorenzo is a writer that lost his creation skills and one night meets Lucia in a restaurant. She confesses to him that she is in love with him and has been stalking him for a long time. They fall in love for each other and Lucia moves to his apartment. Later, Lorenzo is informed by his friend Pepe (Javier Cámara) that he has a daughter, and he meets her in a square, with her baby sitter. From this point on, Lorenzo mixes his reveries with reality.

Caótica Ana (Chaotic Ana):

Ana, a young girl who used to live on Ibiza with her hippy father, moves to an artists'' hide-out in Madrid because she is an aspiring painter. She flees her own fate after a hypnosis session that allows her to glimpse parallel experiences she believes are past lives.
