Synopsis:
A young couple, expecting their first child, are told tales by one of their tenants that frighten the wife, who believes they may be prophecies concerning their unborn child. A Parisian sewer worker (Stewart) longs for a rise in status and a beautiful wife. He rescues a girl (Simone Simon) from the police, lives with her in a barren flat on the seventh floor, and then marches away to war.
