Following two years of investigation, this documentary charts the amazing life of Mobutu. In November 1965, with help from the CIA, Mobutu seizes power of the Congo Belge and renames it Zaire. He imposes fear and supression on his people and becomes one of the world's most powerful and feared dictators. This release features director Thierry Michel's shocking feature film and TV series which tells of the King of Zaire's ambition and greed for power. Documents five weeks in Kinshasa, chronicling life in the capital city and revealing the disparities in its social fabric. In addition to bourgeois traders, religious and military figures, we see beggars, transients and social outcasts, and Zaireans grieving for their dead, martyrs to an iron-gloved dictator. The Last Colonials (1995)
Visits with the last of the white population living in Zaire. They are managers, missionaries, businessmen and land owners who have chosen to settle in the heart of Africa, and who remain there in spite of the violence and danger.
