Synopsis:
In 1930s Italy, Maria, a beautician of modest means, rekindles an affair with clerk Giovanni. Despite the class differences, there is nothing challenging in their relationship. Only the revelation of Giovanni's daughter and wife makes Maria realise they have no future.
