Synopsis:
Everyone's sorry about something in this glum drama about the way repentance can do more damage than the sin that precedes it. Set in the tiny South African fishing village of Paternoster, the movie accompanies a white ex-cop on his penitential journey to the still-grieving family of a young freedom fighter whom he killed 10 years earlier. Ian Gabriel's sluggish direction is offset by atmospheric visuals and a morally gray script that suggests confession may be good for the soul, but it can be very bad for your health.

Tertius Coetzee, a former white policeman in apartheid South Africa, is granted amnesty by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Nevertheless he goes in search of the family whose son he tortured and shot ten years ago. The parents want him to leave, but their children want vengeance.
