Synopsis:

Drama. In the town of Hokitika on New Zealand's South Island, in a small community, Rose longs to have a baby, but is having trouble conceiving. Her husband, Stuart, suggests adoption, an idea which Rose is against. Then an unusual woman, Magik, drives into town. She is a fortune teller who, like Rose, is desperate to have a baby before she is too old. Magik is willing to take the extreme option of advertising for a sperm donor. However, Magik has already given birth once before, years ago, to a baby girl whom she abandoned, and who is now in her teens. When the two meet for the first time the teenager is understandably hostile.
