Synopsis:
A couple deals with unusual issues of freedom and erotic gamesmanship in this independent comedy drama, the first feature from writer and director Olivier Masset-Depasse. Eve (Anne Coesens) is an emergency medical technician who falls in love with Damien (Sagamore Stévenin), a handsome and caring man who runs a neighborhood bar in the Belgian countryside. When Damien and Eve become a couple, she joins him in looking after the bar and becomes friendly with the regular customers, but things take an unexpected turn when Eve is in a serious auto accident. While Eve walks away with no serious physical injuries, she's emotionally ravaged by the experience, and develops a severe speech impediment. Eve's new stutter makes it hard for her to communicate with Damien and she becomes the butt of jokes from the customers. Eve is increasingly isolated and Damien takes up with another woman until Eve retaliates by trapping him in their home and forces him to re-establish the building blocks of their relationship, starting with their sexual communication. Meanwhile, Eve's struggle to speak is contrasted with one of the tavern's annual events, an animal calling contest. Cages received its North American premiere at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival.

Psychological erotic thriller centred around a couple who are passionately in love. Eve and Damien are hosts of an unusual country pub that runs an annual contest for animal call impersonators. When Eve is injured in an accident, her life alters as the physical scars she endures affect her psychologically and she becomes mute. Damien initially is very supportive but as he loses patience and gradually drifts away into the arms of another woman, Eve is driven to desperate measures and kidnaps him, and makes him a physical prisoner, not unlike herself. She sets out to win him back.

Eve is a paramedic involved in a storybook romance with the handsome and supportive Damien. Together, they own a country pub that hosts an annual contest for the most talented animal-call impersonators. One day Eve's life is altered forever. She is involved in a horrific accident as she attends to a patient in the back of an ambulance. Although the flying glass shards do not cause any lasting damage, her scars make Eve 'psychogenically mute.' At first, Damien tries everything in his power to rehabilitate her, but she finds it impossible to heal. Eve has become useless in the pub and the object of its patrons' derision, and this begins to grate on Damien. He gradually drifts away from her and into the arms of another woman, the manager of the local brewery. But Eve is unwilling to let him go so easily.
