Synopsis:
From legendary Polish master-director Wojciech Has The Hourglass Sanatorium is a cinematic adaptation of renowned writer Bruno Schulz' Sanatorium Under The Sign Of The Hourglass. This magnificent newly restored edition is one of the first Polish films to be restored in HD, by the outstanding Polish cinematographer Witold Sobocinski, giving it amazing depth of field and excellent definition. Set in the pre-World War II era, the film sees Joseph (Jan Nowicki) travelling on a strange, dilapidated train to see his dying father (Tadeusz Kondrat) in a sanatorium. Upon arrival though, he finds a hospital crumbling into ruin, where time is slowed down in order to maintain his father's life signs.

In the period before World War II, Joseph (Jan Nowicki) is on his way to visit his father in a sanatorium. As he travels by train, his reminiscences and fantasies blend together and become a revelatory window into the mind and psyche of a somewhat mystical young Jew. Among the images that are brought to the screen are the ghettos, black colonial mercenary soldiers, and memories of Jacob's mother and father in better times.

Set in pre-World War II era. A young man is on a strange train to see his dying father in a sanatorium. But the place is going to ruin and recalls a lot of memories from the past. He is beset by soldiers from the past, colonial black mercenaries, girls from his early life, and his parents. It is an interior adventure, with unusual atmospheric flair and extraordinary sets.
