Synopsis:

I Loved a Desperate Woman is a romantic comedy on the refining power of love. The script has been written by Tove Idström (Hardly a Butterfly, Amazing Women by the Sea). I Loved a Desperate Woman, directed by Jarmo Lampela, looks into the world of a simple man, a world that is time after time stirred into disorder by impulsive women. A marketing researcher, Leo Timonen (Juha Kukkonen), thinks that his life is in perfect order, until the day that he finds out that his fiancée, Jaava (Maria Kuusiluoma), has decided to take off with another man. Leo seeks to bolster his wounded ego with the aid of two rowdy women, Maarit and Kiia (Maija Junno and Minna Suuronen), whom he has met at a shopping mall bar, but he is sent to a dazed stupor by their brisk life styles. Then Jaava changes her mind and wants to come back. The foundation is set for a tangled mess of relationships, through which Leo drifts practically paralyzed. On top of everything else, he falls in love. 'I can't understand how women can stand their own lives when they are so flighty. First they are with you, heart and soul, and then some tomdickandharry appears in the horizon and they are off on their way, eyes glazed, not even glancing back. How can a man keep up with it?' I Loved a Desperate Woman premiered at the Tampere Film Festival 1999, where it was voted best film by the audience.
