Synopsis:
Der Mond und andere Liebhaber narrates the story of Hanna, a woman who will not take lifes set-backs and knock-downs sitting down. Instead, she takes them in her stride, picks herself up and marches onward. This is a woman who continually draws new courage from her inexhaustible will to live. Whatever losses and uncertainties come her way, she remains true to herself. When her former employer, a cosmetics shop, goes bust, Hanna simply helps herself to boxes full of perfume. As life and politics change around her, principally the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification, Hanna battles on through the new job at the petrol station, the steady advances from Knuti (Steffen Scheumann), right through to a trip to Turkey until she meets the great love of her life. But Gansar (Birol Uenel) is not a free man. Hannas desperation leads to a very public scene and personal tragedy. Except, this is Hanna we are talking about. So she does what only she can. She picks herself up again, and starts over in new hope.As if Der Mond und andere Liebhaber needed it, another thespian seal of approval comes from Birol Uenel, whose performance in Fatih Akins Berlin Golden Bear-winning Head-On still resonates.

Hanna is a small woman with a strong will to live, who is dreaming of a better future and of a lifechanging relationship. When the cosmetics factory where she works goes bankrupt and is about to be blown up, all she manages to save at the last moment are a few boxes of perfume bottles. But for Hanna life goes on. She takes a job at a gas station where she has to fend off the continuous advances of her boss Knuti. After several acquaintances and failed vacation dalliances, there is finally hope for Hanna: Whilst trying to sell the perfume bottles at the local market of her small town, she meets the charming Gansar. He has a wistful gaze, strong hands and a suave voice: he is the Pakistani anorak-seller at the weekly market and the great love of her life. With Gansar her home becomes an everlasting paradise. However, Hanna is in for a shock as she discovers that despite his promises he is married with two kids...

When the cosmetics shop Hanna works for goes bust, her entrepreneurial spirit kicks in and she desperately rescues boxes full of perfume to sell on the black market. While doing this she meets the charming Gansar, who might be the love of her life if he wasn't already married with children.
