Synopsis:

Director Gianfranco Quattrini takes a closer look at the frantic lives of Latin-American suburbanites in this drama about a father who discovers that his teenage daughter is pregnant, and becomes determined to change his destiny. Julio Cesar's daughter is going to have a baby. Realizing that by working as a taxi driver he will never make the money needed to support his grandchild, the soon-to-be grandfather opts to drop his job as a wheelman and become a full time Tarot reader. Following the wisdom of the deck, Cesar sets out into the streets of Lima and encounters a fledgling streetwalker, a mysterious Argentine nurse, and a second league football championship featuring his favorite team.

'In the practice of tarot there is a journey, a fool's journey.' So begins the story of Julio César, a hard working yet unlucky taxi driver in Lima. More interested in the simple pleasures of lotto, soccer and prostitutes, Julio is oblivious to his straying wife and pregnant daughter. But when he is confronted by his wife to make things right at home, Julio finds himself looking to the tarot cards for direction. His increasing ability to interpret the cards leads him on an intriguing path to remedy all of life's problems. He starts advising everyone he comes across, even his passengers. 'Chicha tu madre' is a suspenseful tale that has us, along with Julio himself, guessing what is going to happen next. With a simplicity that evokes the work of Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray, the film daringly takes on popular culture with wonderful performances and great cinematography.

Julio Cesar, an amateur Tarot reader, survives driving a taxi in the city of Lima, Peru. When he learns that his teenage daughter has become pregnant, he undertakes a hazardous process of transformation, during which he will understand that even though he may not be the owner of his destiny, he can still find his salvation.
