Synopsis:
This is the magnificent saga, adapted from the book by R F Delderfield, of rural Edwardian England from 1900 to the end of the Great War. Nigel Havers stars as Paul Craddock, invalided out of the army during the Boer War to become Squire of the long neglected Devonshire Estate of Shallowford. A difficult task, he must use all his charm and guile to convince the local inhabitants he is the man for the job. The series charts Craddock's new life in the Valley which is challenging because of the Valley's inhabitants and the harsh consequences of war.

The entire series of the TV adaptation of R.F. Delderfield's famous novel. During the Boer War, Paul Craddock is released from the army an invalid and accepts an invitation to become Squire of Shallowford, a rundown country estate in Devon. It's 1902 and Craddock (Nigel Havers) is getting to grips with his new job and renovating the estate, and once he's won the trust of the suspicious locals he finds a wife and has a family. But that's just the start of it...When Paul Craddock is invalided out of the army during the Boer War, he accepts the job as Squire of the Estate of Shallowford.
