Synopsis:

The DVD 'EENOOG KONING. Treasures of De Filmbank' [One-eyed King. Treasures of De Filmbank] consists of seventeen highlights of Dutch experimental film which De Filmbank has presented over the past few years.
Treasures of de Filmbank : Freedom of visual expression is crucial for a thriving film scene. Experimental films analyse and criticise the mainstream film industry. Sometimes they have to take a step back in order to preserve the nature of the medium followed by a giant leap forwards to sample new possibilities. Experiment breeds a certain isolation, but in the Netherlands this has gone too far. Experimental films are rarely shown here. The makers are better known abroad than in their own country. De Filmbank would like to introduce independent films to a wider Dutch audience. Films that seek out the boundaries of their own medium are important to film lovers the world over.

Which films? The Filmbank's aim is to find an audience for independent, experimental Dutch films. 'Experimental' in the widest sense of the word, encapsulating work that is inspired by the classic avant-garde or work that explores the relationship between film and other art forms. Any form that are suitable for projection are eligible. Format and length are unimportant. Quality is. The Filmbank will showcase films that are unique in their unconventional subject matter, working method and form. Films that are so confusing, beautiful, harsh or absurd that they are difficult to forget.
