Synopsis:
Poignant, anti-war drama from director Bernhard Wicki about a group of German boys' attempts to guard a bridge in the dying days of WWII. As the defeated ranks of the Wehrmacht try to escape the advancing American troops, seven boys from a local village are seconded to guard a strategically worthless bridge. Fired up by the patriotic ideology on offer, the boys' resolve is put to the test when American tanks suddenly appear, intent on crossing the bridge.

Bernhard Wicki's directorial debut, this is an excellent little film with little plot and no known names on the roster. In the final days of World War II, German teenagers join the Nazi army in a futile attempt to stop the enemy invasion. A sympathetic officer places the boys as guards of a seemingly unimportant bridge. The seven youths are thrown into battle when American tanks unexpectedly appear and try to cross the bridge. The film has a definite anti-war message.

The story of the Allied invasion of Normandy in World War II. Following dozens of characters who together re-create the historical events of five separate invasion points that made up the operation.
