Synopsis:
A struggling young writer, Nicholas Whistler, is sent on a seemingly innocent commercial assignment behind the Iron Curtain. On his arrival in Prague, everyone - including his beautiful chauffeuse, Vlasta - believes the Czech-speaking Nicholas to be a spy. It takes much time and adventure for him to realise it, but when he eventually discovers that he has been plunged into the world of international espionage, he is numb with horror. With his contacts gone, he is on his own, and must escape arrest and flee to England. But the secret police are close behind him... Dirk Bogarde stars as replacement agent number 008 opposite Yugoslavian-born screen siren Sylva Koscina in this satirical Cold War thriller. Scripted by Lukas Heller (The Dirty Dozen, The Flight of the Phoenix) and produced by the prolific and highly successful Betty Box, Hot Enough for June also features a supporting cast that includes Robert Morley, Leo McKern and John Le Mesurier.

Dirk Bogarde plays one of those "reluctant spies" so common to adventure films of the 1960s. A poverty-stricken author, Bogarde is sent to Czechoslovakia by the British government as an unofficial "goodwill ambassador" to an industrial firm. It soon dawns upon him that his real assignment is to gather facts for his government's secret service; unfortunately, neither Bogarde's bosses nor his adversaries let him in on just how much danger is involved. After an excellent--and quite funny--opening, the film bogs down into an uninspired James Bond parody (we should have been warned what was coming by the very first scene, in which Agent 007's file is marked "Deceased"). Also known as Agent 008 3/4, Agent 8 3/4 was originally screened in England as Hot Enough for June; the British version ran nearly twenty minutes longer than the American release.

Nicolas Whistler, a young, Czech-speaking writer, is taken off the dole and engaged as a junior executive in a glass works. He is sent to Prague, ostensibly on a trade mission but in reality as spy. He meets his contact, gets the formula and falls in love with his glamorous driver, Vlasts, the daughter of the chief of the Communist counter-espionage service. His contact is liquidated and Nicolas, aided by Vlasts, eventually reaches the British Embassy. He is put on a plane home and finds himself next to a Communist delegate to a trade mission to Aldermaston. It is Vlasts. Based on the novel, Night of Wenceslas by Lionel Davidson.
