Synopsis:

Season 11, Episode 9: Tracks: Part 1

Self-made man Ray Herper and his bright teenage son Andy are seen to be driving at a chalk pit. The next day the corpse of young Maria Cole is found there and the police trace the tracks to the Harpers. Andy has a friend Darren, who is lower class and has had dealings with the police. The boys admit to being at the quarry but deny all knowledge of Maria. In fact she was a lap dancer at a club to which Harper took Andy but he fled from her. CCTV footage at a garage where Maria went after being threatened by hoodies shows her getting into a car with Andy and Darren and they are charged with her murder.

Ray Harper is devastated to find that Andy has hung himself. Darren admits that he and Andy were a gay couple but dared not tell their families. The case against him collapses and he is released. Mike Walker is having troubles of his own with his teenage son but when Roisin decides to visit Darren at his flat she is in for a shock.

Gunmen in a car force an ambulance off the road, killing a paramedic. The ambulance overturns and the gangsters shoot and kill patient Sebastian Cole. It becomes clear that Cole and his friend Ross were working as drug smugglers but D.C.I. McGill is annoyed when Mike and Roisin crash in to interview Ross as McGill had had him under surveillance. Cole's girlfriend, Imogen, is an 'It' girl frequently seen in the pages of tabloids. She is distraught at the death and her mother tells the police that she was innocent of all knowledge of the drug running. The team are not so sure but need proof.

After a shaky start to their cooperative venture Roisin and Jack McGill get on very well, rather beyond the call of duty in fact. Imogen has disappeared, having been taken by the drug smuggling gang and her mother Tanya makes an appeal for her return. However, when Imogen next turns up it is apparent that she knew far more than she claimed about the attack on the ambulance and may even have played a part in its happening.

A young girl falls out of the Big Wheel at a funfair and is killed. Initially it is thought her death was accidental but Tess, the fair's fortune teller, who turns out to be a relative of Satchell, comes to see him with her suspicions that a development company, who want the land occupied by the fair, may be responsible. The fair's owner Tommy Gilbert, gets her to back -track on her statement but then he too is murdered.

Despite the presence of Tess, the police find the funfair workers unwilling to cooperate. An arrest is eventually made, a Romanian worker called Pavel, who had actually gone out with the girl who fell from the Big Wheel, but he is not the murderer. The big question still remains as to the part the development company may have played in the deaths at the fair.

The vicious Bilkin family commit an armed robbery on a jeweller's shop, killing the shop manager. Miller, a rival to the Bilkins, informs on but they walk and later Miller is murdered. D.S. Satchell witnesses the killing and realizes that he and his pregnant wife and their daughter are now targets. His fears are realized when his family go missing.

An anguished Satchell is all for confronting the Bilkins and has to be dissuaded from doing so by Roisin. However his wife are child are eventually released unharmed. Mike walker cannot help but wonder how the Bilkins knew that Satch saw Miller being killed and suspects that one of his team may be on the gangsters' payroll.

Episodes Comprise:

Tracks : When the body of a teenage girl is discovered in a rain-soaked chalk pit, the signs point to local hardman Ray Harper. Ray's son Andy and his friend Darren claim they never saw the dead girl. But the secret they insist on keeping will only lead to death and despair.

Siren: When an ambulance is run off the road and its passenger shot multiple times, it looks like a hit. But an already complex murder becomes more complicated when it revolves around a beautiful rich girl with something to hide, and the dark, deadly world of the cocaine dealer.

Ghost Train: When a girl falls to her death from a Ferris Wheel it could be a tragic accident. A fortune teller, who is also Satchell's aunt, thinks not, and when another murder follows she appears to be right. Shady business dealings lead in one direction - but the closed-world secrets of the fairground lead another.

Shooter: A jewelry shop robbery ends in murder, leading police to the notorious Bilkin Family. But the case goes off-track and suddenly witnesses are murdered and Satchell's wife and child threatened. Now it's personal - and with a paid informant giving the Bilkin's what they need, it could all go dangerously wrong.
