Synopsis:
Strapped for cash because of his ex-wife's monetary demands, the unemployed Andreas (Roland Dueringer) decides to hold up a Vienna supermarket just before Christmas in order to raise some necessary funding. At the last minute he bows out and wanders into a tailor's shop across the street, where he impulsively takes Boeckel (Joachim Bissmeier), the owner, hostage. Before Andreas burst in, Boeckel had been in the process of fitting Franz (Josef Hader), a tiresome regular customer, and now the three men are trapped together as the police surround the store. Various power plays ensue until all become united in getting Andreas his money. When Hold-Up was shown at the 2000 Locarno Film Festival, Hader, Bissmeier, and Dueringer shared the festival's Best Actor prize for their ensemble work in the darkly comic film.

Comedy drama. Andreas, out of work and desperate to find enough cash to meet the demands of his ex-wife, decides to rob a Vienna supermarket just before Christmas. Losing his nerve, he impulsively tries to rob the owner of a tiny tailor's store next door instead. The owner, Boeckel, is busy adjusting some trousers for an annoying customer, Franz. While the street outside is cordoned off by the police, the three men eventually come up with a plan to get Andreas his money.

Looking around for a suitable place to hold up, Andreas stumbles into a tailor's shop. What was supposed to last only a few minutes ends up being a bizarre afternoon for three men: the tragicomic of the less-than-expert robber, the cranky tailor and a customer - a know-it-all who drives the other two crazy. The mood constantly shifts, and the tables keep turning among the threesome. A black comedy with a twist.
