Grazia's Island (2002)
In a small fishing village on Lampedusa, an island off western Sicily, life can be both heartwarming and suffocating. Grazia is an affectionate wife and young mother, but her free spirited attitude causes talk in the village. Her husband, Pietro, stands by his wife, but when Grazia's reckless behaviour becomes misinterpreted as clinical, his family decides she should be sent to Milan for medical treatment. Grazia tries to run away but is saved by her thirteen year-old son, Pasquale.
The Heart Is Elsewhere (2003)
Period drama set in 1920s Bologna. Nello is sent to Bologna by his family to work as a schoolteacher, but more importantly, to find a wife. He succeeds when he finds Angela. Although Angela is blind, it seems that Nello is the one who is unable to see their relationship clearly.
The Taxidermist (2002)
Peppino (Mahieux) is an aging taxidermist constantly ridiculed for being short and somewhat creepy. He meets Valerio (Manzillo), a handsome young man fascinated by Peppino's work. Peppino, in turn, becomes entranced by Valerio and offers him a large salary to come work as his assistant. But when Valerio meets Deborah (Rocchetti), their fledgling romance is threatened by an insanely jealous third wheel.
If by Chance (2002)
Stefania and Tommaso are to marry and want their wedding to be special. They travel to Stefania's childhood church and there meet a priest who rises to the challenge. In the ceremony the couple are confronted with not only the beauty of their love but also the darker challenges of marriage; the loss of togetherness, the temptations, the interference of others. Yet, through it all they and their guests learn that love is something that we all must do alone.
My Mother's Smile (2002)
Ernesto is a successful artist who has his life turned upside down by his family's wishes for the canonization of his murdered mother. His extreme dislike for her ignorant ways brings about a greater connection with his insane brother who killed her, while his other brothers favor her beatification. There is a struggle of wills and will power.
The Best Day of My Life (2002)
The mainstay of the well-heeled Roman clan is troubled matriarch and widowed grandmother Irene, who lives alone in a decaying family villa where she frets about her wayward children and her roses in equal measure.
Three Wives (2001)
What do a rich wife, a middle class housewife and a working class woman in common? Their respective husbands left them on New Year's eve. And what do their husbands have in common? They all work in the same bank as director, cashier and armed guard. Their disappearance also coincides with the fact that a vast amount of money is also missing. And what of the three wives? For different reasons and with different agendas, each of them finds herself in Argentina on the trail of their erring spouses.
Santa Maradona (2001)
Andrea is 27, a university graduate and a number of girlfriends. He is full of hope but doesn't have any real prospects of changing his life. He has two best friends, his flatmate, Bart a lazy but extremely streetwise good-for-nothing, and Lucia, an Italo-Indian girl with a very complicated love life.
From Zero to Ten (2002)
A belated reunion sets the stage for an introspective weekend of reflection in this comedy from director Luciano Ligabue. Keeping their promise to reunite with four girls they had met 20 years before, Giove (Stefano Pesce), Libero (Massimo Bellinzoni), Riccio (Pierfrancesco Favino), and Baygon (Stefano Venturi) momentarily put their lives on hold for a weekend at the Aurora Hotel in Rimini. Arriving to meet Caterina (Elisabetta Cavallotti), Carmen (Barbara Lerici, Lara (Fabrizia Sacchi), and Betta (Stefania Rivi), the old friends soon begin a long weekend of relaxing and evaluating their lives.
Francesca and Nunziata (2001)
At the beginning of the century, in Italy, a wealthy woman Francesca (Loren), adopts a poor little girl named Nunziata. The years pass, Nunziata falls in love Federico (Bova), her adoptive brother, son of Francesca.
Angela (2002)
Roberta Torre's Angela is a love story set in the mob world. Angela (Donatella Finocchiaro) is a woman devoted to her older gangster husband, Saro (Mario Pupella). When Masino (Andrea Di Stefano) goes to work for Saro, Angela and Masino begin an affair. Their illicit relationship is discovered when the cops raid the shoe store where she works. The police offer to destroy the evidence of her affair if she will turn on her husband, but she refuses. Angela was screened during the Directors Fortnight at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.
The Line of Fire (2002)
At El Alamein the Italian and German troops were defeated and forced to an humiliating retreat. Rather than narrating the Great Battle of the famous generals, the film tells about the daily life in a dirty, ugly and cruel war, just as any war.
