Her Whole Life Ahead (2008)
The vicissitudes of a newly graduated girl in the universe of the precarious work. Marta is a well- educated girl; she is curious and silent one, which finds work in the call center of a company that sells a futuristic appliance. So she finds out a new fantastic world formed by young telephone operator and fanatic seller, corporate jingle, motivational dance, prize giving, ovation and penance. A bittersweet picture of modern society narrated through the eyes of a funny young philosopher.
The Girl by the Lake (2007)
An idyllic town surrounded by mountains is shocked by the murder of young and beautiful Anna, found nude on the side of a lake but with no signs of sexual assault or a struggle. Inspector Giovanni Sanzio is called in from the provincial capital, but the victim proves as mysterious as the crime itself.
Caravaggio (2007)
The tumultuous and adventurous life of Michelangelo Merisi, controversial artist, called by Fate to become the immortal Caravaggio. A violent genius that will dare to defy the ideal vision of the world imposed by the Renaissance painters. A provoker that scandalized patrons and institutions, raising the altars the outcast figures he knew so well: drunkards, vagrants and prostitutes.
Rush Hour (The Trial Begins) (2007)
Filippo Costa, a young tax policeman of modest social origins nurtures enormous ambition which isolates him from his colleagues and his background. He initially aspires to climbing the ladder of the career he has chosen for himself, however, when he comes face to face with corruption he realises that he can set his sights much higher. In his unstoppable social climbing, he is helped by Caterina, a woman who is older than him, beautiful, cultured, elegant, very wealthy and very much in love. Thanks to her, Filippo rubs shoulders with many high-powered financiers and so begins his ascent of the prestigious, social and financial ladder. To avoid being crushed by the cynical rules of that world, Filippo is forced to abandon all trace of human or moral scruple.
Talk to Me About Love (2008)
Sasha, the 20 year-old son of drug addicts, meets Nicole, a 40 year-old ex-psychologist housewife with marital problems, when their cars crash in the middle of the night and they discover a dog has been hurt in the accident. At the veterinarian hospital, they feel a mutual platonic attraction and exchange phone numbers, but don't talk again for many months. Meanwhile, Sasha falls in love with a girl he met at the rehab community where he grew up. When Nicole calls Sasha to check on the dog, she also gives him advice on how to seduce the girl and Sasha finally wins her over. Much time passes before Nicole contacts Sasha again, but when she does, she finds out Sasha's girlfriend has been a bad influence, leading him to play poker and run with a bad crowd. Both Sasha and Nicole realize they cannot live without the other.
Il Divo (2008)
Award-winning filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino (The Family Friend) writes and directs this cinematic portrait of seven-time Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti, whose controversial legacy peaked when he was tried for Mafia ties and subsequently acquitted. A leader with close ties to the Vatican, Andreotti was also tried and acquitted for the murder of an Italian journalist, and remains a senator for life.
Days and Clouds (2007)
Well-to-do, sophisticated couple Elsa and Michele have a 20 year-old daughter, Alice, and enough money for Elsa to leave her job and fulfill an old dream: study art history. After she graduates, however, their lives change. Michele confesses he hasn't worked in two months and was fired by the company he founded years ago. Elsa overcomes her initial shock by pouring extra energy into facing the crisis while Michele, exhausted by an unsuccessful job hunt, lets himself go, alternating between vivacity and apathy. The growing distance between them eventually leads to a break-up. Only when they apart will they realize that they risk losing their most precious possession: the love that binds them.
Cardio Fitness (2007)
An irrepressible passion blossoms between 27 year-old aspiring writer Stefania, and Stefano, a 15 year-old high school student. Their unusual relationship obviously baffles friends and relatives of both components of the unusual couple. Can their feelings withstand their own fears and the pressure of society ? ... Based on the homonymous novel by Alessandra Montrucchio.
The Rest of the Night (2008)
Drama. When some jewellery goes missing from their home, Giovanni Boarin and his wife Silvana conclude that their maid Maria is to blame. When they dismiss her, she goes to stay with her ex-boyfriend Ionut, where, together with ex-convict Marco, they plan to burgle the Boarin home.
Lessons In Chocolate (2007)
Mattia, a young, ambitious building contractor, is about to close the biggest deal of his career when his illegaly-hired worker Kamal falls off some not-up-to code scaffolding and break several bones. Kamal threatens to sue Mattia and to press charges, unless... Unless Mattia takes his place in an advanced chocolate course for pastry makers!
Wild Blood (2008)
Valenti and Ferida - executed by partisans. Idolised by the public, a famous and infamous couple on and off screen. Stars of the Fascist endorsed 'white telephone' cinema, their private lives were as wild as the villainous, depraved characters they portrayed. Driven by an uncontrollable lust for sensation and all consuming cocaine habits. Well at last that was the rumour. They denied every charge levelled against them, claiming the crimes attributed to them were inventions, the fruits of envy. However Valenti and Ferida had lent their glamour to the fascist regime and collaborated with the Germans. They had to pay. Thus the curtain fell on these two celebrated actors, Valenti as ever in the role of Villain and Ferida once more playing the doomed woman.
