My Best Enemy (2006)
Achille, a successful man with a prestigious job, comes up against the unruly Orfeo, a young man who wants to avenge his mothers firing from her job at Achilles hotel after being accused of theft.
Along the Ridge (2006)
11 year-old Tommy, his older sister Viola and their father Renato have formed a strangely united family since the most important woman in their life, the mother of the two children and Renato's wife, abandoned them. Despite all, this family, so full of fury, failings and inconsolable loneliness, keeps going, thanks to their abiding concern for others and their love.
Quo Vadis, Baby? (2005)
Noir thriller. Giorgia works as a private detective for her father's detective agency. She lives alone and often works out in a boxing gym. When a friend hands over old video-tapes of her younger sister Ada, who committed suicide 16 years before, Giorgia finds painful feelings reawakened by her sibling's confessions - and suspects she may have been murdered.
Mario's War (2005)
Drama. An art lecturer and her partner, Sandro, foster problem child Mario. However, her lack of discipline and clear behaviour boundaries confuses the child and leads to the break up of her relationship with Sandro. Mario himself begins to develop a violent fantasy life.
Days of Abandonment (2005)
Olga's life is shattered when her husband abandons her. This prompts her to fall into a period of self-degradation and self-destructive behaviors.
The Beast in the Heart (2005)
Sabina is beautiful, enjoys her job and loves her boyfriend, but is she truly happy? For some time now, strange nightmares have tormented her, and finding herself pregnant forces open a disquieting window onto her own inner life: her memories, her adolescence, her family, bourgeois rituals at once both strict and reassuring. But these are only the surface. From deeper down, something much darker and more disturbing is about to be revealed.
Viva Zapatero (2005)
Looks at the rise of censorship in the media in Italy, and particularly on television. Sabina Guzzanti's satirical political comedy show (RAIot, a play on the name of the state public TV: RAI)was cancelled by Silvio Berlusconi who controlled RAI. She interviews satirists from other countries as well as people on the street and in the studio. Considers the hold Berlusconi has over the media and how critical programmes and journalists have been forced off the air.
The Caiman (2006)
In the 1970s Paola plays a Marxist-Leninist extremist in an action movie. Many years later she is no longer an actress and is getting divorced from film producer Bruno. Bruno starts producing a film from a script he hasn't read written by a young woman. Since the story centres on Berlusconi's corruption, the RAI refuses to fund it. Instead, Bruno gets the money from a Polish magnate who requires that the lead role be played by famous actor Marco Pulici.
Marcello, A Sweet Life (2006)
Marcello Mastroianni (1924-1996) was arguably the most famous and respected leading man in the history of Italian cinema. A favorite of such directors Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti and Michelangelo Antonioni, Mastroianni's fame in Europe extended to the United States, where he was nominated for three Academy Awards and frequently starred opposite another celebrated Italian player, Sophia Loren. Filmmakers Mario Canale and Annarosa Morri offer a look at the public and private sides of this legendary actor in the documentary Marcello: A Sweet Life, which features archival interviews with the actor alongside reminiscences from his family, friends and colleagues. Interview subjects include actresses Claudia Cardinale and Anouk Aimee, directors Ettore Scola, Mario Monicelli and Lina Wertmuller, and Marcello's daughters Barbara Mastroianni and Chiara Mastroianni. Marcello: A Sweet Life received its world premiere at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.
The Land (2006)
Returning to Puglia where as a teenager he was involved in violent rebellions against his tyrannic father, Luigi, now a mature philosophy lecturer, is confronted with the troubled atmsosphere of a world that he thought he had left behind for good. Together with his brothers, Michele, a mediocre businessman, and Mario, an eternal student, Luigi seeks in vain to convince their half-brother Aldo, a violent womaniser like his father, to sell a half-abandoned family farm.
Crime Novel (2005)
A criminal known as The Lebanese has a dream: to conquer the underworld of Rome. To carry out this feat without precedent he puts together a ruthless and highly organized gang. Their progress and changes in leadership (The Lebanese is followed by his cohorts Freddo and Dandy) take place over twenty-five years, from the 1970s into the '90s, and are inseparably intertwined with the dark history of modern Italy: terrorism, kidnappings and corruption at the highest levels of government. Throughout these years Police Lieutenant Scialoia sticks to the gang s trail, trying both to bring them to justice and to win the heart of Dandy's girlfriend Patrizia. From the novel by Giancarlo De Cataldo.
