Synopsis:
Mozambique, Civil War. Muidinga is a fragile boy, whose bigger wish is to find his family. He reads in a diary, found beside a dead body, the history of a woman that seeks her son in a ship. Due to his hope to find his own family, Muidinga convinces himself that he is the boy who is being search. He tries to find the woman, with the help of Tuahir, a thin old man full of experience and wisdom. However, Tuahir doesnt know that sometimes the histories of the diary are created by Muidinga. The journey is hard: they move between refugees in state of delirium. Not to get insane, they only have each other. The road which way they walk, as sleepwalkers, is magic: understand their desires and move them from a place to another and doesnt let them die until they achieve the so dreamt sea.

In early-'90s Mozambique, following the dissipation of that country's infamous civil war, a sensitive boy named Muidinga (Nick Lauro Teresa) struggles to survive without the presence of his parents -- who have long since disappeared, their whereabouts unknown. So begins Teresa Prata's gentle, compassionate drama Sleepwalking Land. As the story commences, Muidinga happens upon a diary found near a lifeless corpse that speaks of a woman on a ship seeking her estranged son. Certain that the woman in question is his mother, Muidinga embarks on a long journey in search of her, and soon gains the support and assistance of a traveling companion, the elderly Tuahir. Tuahir expresses his belief in Muidinga's quest -- but fails to recognize Muidinga's propensity for inventing stories from the diary. As background questions linger of the tale's legitimacy, the two travelers set out on a long trek from one refugee camp to another, hoping to find at least some trace of the woman who brought Muidinga into the world.

This is a story within a story. Young Muidinga is desperate to find the family he lost while his country was in civil war. He finds a diary that recounts the story of a woman on a ship who is searching for her son. Muidinga, convinced that he is her son, decides to try to find her with the help of wise guardian Tuahirn who he meets on his journey.
