Corpus Christi (1997)
CORPUS CHRISTI explores the historical figure of Jesus through the story of the Passion. Dedicated documentary filmmakers Gérard Mordillat and Jérôme Prieur called on the world's most renowned biblical scholars to lead this inquiry, which began with an examination of the Gospel According to St. John and proceeded through the 27 books of the New Testament. Word for word, phrase by phrase, verse by verse, these experts uncovered the enigma known as Jesus Christ. Hailed by critics and viewers as a series on French television, CORPUS CHRISTI offers the same rigorous research into the world's most treasured texts that was displayed in the filmmakers' earlier ORIGIN OF CHRISTIANITY. Whether approached from a religious or a secular point of view, CORPUS CHRISTI reveals the mystery and complexities of Jesus Christ and his role in Christianity as documented by the New Testament.

The Origin of Christianity (2003)
Relying upon the only existing sources which bear witness to this history, Origin of Christianity tells the story of the emergence of this new religion in just over a century from the period between Jesus' death around 30 and the time when Christianity would make a definitive break away from Judaism, around 150.

The Apocalypse (2008)
In The Apocalypse, 50 researchers, philosophers, historians and theologians explore the expansion of Christianity between the first and the fifth centuries. These specialists explain their theories on how a marginal Jewish movement became the official religion of the Roman empire in 380 AD.

Corpus Christi (1997)
Historians, epigraphists, biblical scholars, linguists, geographers and archeologists, believers and non-believers, Catholics, Protestants and Jews, from the universities of Jerusalem, Strasbourg, Lyon, Geneva, Heidelberg, from England and the United States have all sunk their teeth into the story of the Passion of Christ as told in the Gospel according to St. John. How and why was Jesus crucified? Who judged him? Who condemned him? What was the religious, political and social context? How can the four Gospels be so divergent? As many questions mark this extraordinary survey, which advances like a suspense story, an old wrinkled finger following the lines on a fragment of papyrus. As a result of the ambiguity, for example, of St. John's phrase 'He will deliver them', describing the attitude of Pontius Pilate at the end of Jesus' trial, the responsibility for the crucifixion of Jesus has been placed on the Jews, sowing the seeds for anti-Semitism for centuries to come. Starting with the crucifixion, the shocking climax to his existence, the series unfolds the events of the life of Jesus ? his baptism, the clash with the merchants in the temple, the trial, etc. ? to raise the question of the place of Jesus in the Jewish world of the time.

The Directors question the leading world specialists in fields as diverse as exegesis, epigraphy, textual criticism, linguistics, the history of Judaism, the study of the apocryphal texts, and patristics, among others. Through chronological reconstruction and cross-examination, they are able to sum up of the state of contemporary research in quite a spectacular way, and to put forward the hypotheses being formed today by researchers in Paris, Tübingen, Jerusalem, Lausanne, Harvard and Cambridge. The papyruses, parchment papers and manuscripts are shown systematically, as are the early writings of the Fathers of the Church and the oldest apocryphal texts. A vast enquiry in which listening to the experts, examining clues and proof, as well as the confrontations of contradicting interpretations make it possible to explore the creation of Christianity within Judaism, followed by its split with the mother religion.

The Apocalypse (2008)
After CORPUS CHRISTI and ORIGIN OF CHRISTIANITY, this third series will explore the rapid expansion of a new religion between the late 1st century and the early 5th century, to describe how the messianism of a marginal Jewish movement that was entirely focused on Israel, on the expectation of the End of Time, which was persecuted by the Roman authorities, would become a religion separate from Judaism. How this religion would conquer western society as a whole, after being consecrated the state religion, the official - and sole - religion of the Roman Empire in 380. The Apocalypse - as the last book of the New Testament, as the incarnation of the return of Christ in majesty, as a theological, philosophical, and political concept - is the point of departure for this new inquiry which will take us as far as the sacking of Rome and to Saint Augustine's City of God. We will analyze how an orthodoxy came to be defined, how a canon of Scriptures, a New Testament and a doctrine were constituted; how gradually a power parallel to that of the Empire, a power which was initially repressed but then gained in influence, established itself. It will try to recount how the 'triumphal march' of Christianity was punctuated by one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after another: of competing doctrines, excommunications and ecumenical councils, and how the oppositions, the persecutions, the disputes and the heresies ended up contributing to the power of the new world religion.
