Synopsis:
A mysterious stranger, Milan (Johnny Hallyday), steps off a train in a place he has never been to before. Looking for a pharmacy to buy some aspirin for a raging headache, he comes across a retired school teacher, Manesquier (Jean Rochefort). The two men are complete opposites. Or at least they seem to be. But each man realises that what he really always wanted is the life of the other man. L'Homme du Train is a comedy-drama of wit and humanity which focuses on the funny and unsentimental realisation of failure, with two commanding central performances.

Two men meet on a street and strike up a friendship for one simple reason: each wanted to have the other's life. The teacher dreamed of being an adventurer; the adventurer thought of himself as a stay-at-home. Three days from now, the adventurer is to hold up the local bank. Three days from now, the teacher is to have a triple heart bypass.

A teacher and a gangster meet by chance in a small town pharmacy. As a friendship of sorts develops between these opposite personalities, each starts to envy the other and by the week's end, everything will change for both of them.
