Synopsis:
James May goes on a mission to reconnect today's youth with some of Britain's best loved toys of yesteryear. In an effort to get kids to put down their games consoles, the technology-enthusiast introduces the new generation to the pleasures, frustrations and ultimate sense of accomplishment found in Plasticine, Lego, Airfix, Scalextrix, Meccano and model railways. Each toy is explored in a group project on a giant, often surreal scale, designed to unite family members of all ages and reawaken the big kid in all of us.

Season 1
Season 1, Episode 1: Airfix
Original Air Date-27 October 2009
James gets a group of thirteen-year-old children from Telford to build a life-size Airfix model of a Spitfire aircraft, complete with a model of himself as the pilot.
Season 1, Episode 2: Plasticine
Original Air Date-3 November 2009
James designs and builds a garden where all the flowers, trees and garden furniture are made of plasticine. He enters it in the Chelsea Flower Show, much to the disdain of the event's organisers.
Season 1, Episode 3: Meccano
Original Air Date-10 November 2009
James builds a combined swing and lifting bridge out of Meccano, to span a canal in Liverpool's dockland so he can walk from one side to the other.
Season 1, Episode 4: Scalextric
Original Air Date-17 November 2009
James builds a Scalextric racetrack around the full length of the disused Brooklands racetrack in Surrey. Much of the former racetrack has now been built on, so his track needs to cross an ornamental pond on a pontoon bridge, climb a staircase in an office block via a spiral ramp and run through the streets of a housing estate. He then races two cars around the 3-mile track.
Season 1, Episode 5: Lego
Original Air Date-20 December 2009
James builds a full-size house out of Lego bricks, complete with internal fittings such as table, bed, toilet - all made of Lego too.
Season 1, Episode 6: Hornby
Original Air Date-25 December 2009
James builds a 10-mile 00-gauge model railway on the trackbed of the disused line from Barnstaple to Bideford in Devon, and then runs model trains along the track, in an attempt to break the world record for the longest model railway.
