Synopsis:

A man in his mid-thirties ponders leaving his adult responsibilities behind in favor of following his teenage dreams in this comedy-drama from France. Max (Mathieu Demy) is a successful surgeon working at one of the best hospitals in Paris. However, when he was nineteen, Max played guitar in a rock 'n' roll band, and for all his accomplishments he's never been able to beat the excitement of cranking up his amp in front of an audience. When Max is offered a promotion at the hospital to chief of thoracic surgery, he decides it's not what he wants and quits in order to put his old band back together. Max wants to keep his new career a secret from his wife Anna (Romane Bohringer), at least for a while, so his best friend Praline (Julie Depardieu) and his closest colleague Jojo (Mathias Mlekuz) are sworn to secrecy as Max starts rehearsing in Praline's basement. While Max is able to convince his old band mates Apache (Warren Zavatta) and Felipe (Fabio Zenoni) to get on board, the group needs a new lead singer, and they recruit Chine (Eleonore Pourriat), a gal with a big voice and attitude to match. Max and company have been breaking in a set of new material when Anna learns her husband has quit medicine to play rock and roll, and while she decides to support his new ambitions, that's not to say she thinks this is a good idea.

A pleasantly un-Hollywood tale of following one's dream before it's too late and no matter where it leads, "If You Love Me Follow Me" radiates conviction thanks to a bang-up central perf by Mathieu Demy. Demy stars as Max who, at 34, has been named head of thoracic surgery at a Paris hospital, but abandons his medical career to revive the rock 'n' roll band he gave up 15 years prior. Impact on his entourage is volcanic. Fests - and perhaps some offshore gigs - await.

Thirty five year-old Maxime, a brilliant doctor, leads an orderly life, surrounded by his lawyer wife, admiring friends and his happy family. A life so cosy that it's almost suffocating. But the day he meets Chine, a singer, he receives the shock everyone close to him has always dreaded. Max decides to chuck in his career to start up a rock group, at last fulfilling a dream from his youth. He drags everyone else into his madcap escapade, his decision affecting all their lives.
