Synopsis:
Isabelle Huppert headlines this sumptuous, passionate tale, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Pascal Quignard (All the Mornings of the World). Huppert stars as Ann, a gifted and brilliant musician whose sense of security falls to pieces when she witnesses her husband kissing another woman. Without hesitation, she abandons him and takes a headlong rush into the arms of a new beginning, embarking on a transnational journey that ultimately takes her to an isolated villa on the secluded island of Ischia, Italy. Once settled, Ann insists on goading herself to fresh extremes, and takes it upon herself to swim out as far into the ocean as possible. Fainting under the scorching summer rays, her floating body is pulled out of the water by local woman Giulia, with whom Ann begins to explore a whole new facet of life. Ann (Huppert) is a composer who catches her long-time partner, Thomas (Xavier Beauvois), in the arms of another woman. Suddenly, everything that seemed fixed and certain in her life disappears. She leaves Paris and winds her way to Ischia, off the coast of Naples, to an old house known as the Villa Amalia. There, she is rescued by a young Italian Giulia (Maya Sansa), and her husband Charles. The two women establish an intense relationship and begin to piece together a new life.

Villa Amalia is the story of Ann, a musician, whose life is turned upside down by a kiss. When she sees Thomas kissing another woman, Ann makes a clean break, leaving him and everything else far behind her. Suddenly unsure of everything that seemed so certain, Ann knows only that she must change her life and become someone else to find herself. With her music and the friendship of Georges, who pops out of her distant past, she sets off on a journey that will take her to an island where the Villa Amalia stands.
