Synopsis:

After a severe drought, Ma Wing Jing and Tai Cheung leave Shantung for Shanghai. They are forced to work as coolies. Ma-a fierce fighter- sves the life of crime boss Tam See thereby earning the hatred of Tam's riavl, Yang Shuang. Ma takes control of a club run by Yam Yueng Tien and soon becomes a famous underworld figure. His swift rise to power leaves him ill-prepared to deal with Yang's cunning and he must pay a bloody price for his success. this gripping martial arts thriller combines state-of-the-art combat sequences with powerful characters and plot.

Ma Wing Jing and his older brother Ma Tai Chueng arrive in Shanghai to make their fortune at the end of the Qin Dynasty. Be-friending a powerful mobster (Tam Sei) Wing Jing is given his nightclub in return for saving Tam Sei's life. Unfortunately, another Gangster wants the territory a well. Corruption and violence rule the streets as Wing Jing and Tam Sei must battle not only the rival gangs but the corrupt police officials as well.

A young man, Ma Wing-Jing (Kaneshiro) journeys to Shanghai, where he encounters a number of gangsters and crime lords. After saving the life of a nightclub owner, things just get more complicated as he falls in love with a cabaret singer who belongs to a mob boss. The first martial arts film from the Shaw Brothers studio in almost twenty years.
