Synopsis:
Custer's last Stand (2007)
Part one of a three-part BBC documentary series about the wild west. The first in the series sheds new light upon the anathemised General Custer, questioning the standard view of him as an incompetent and vainglorious idiot and presenting him as an intelligent and ruthless man, whose last battle could easily have been a victory if things had gone as he'd planned.

Billy The Kid (2007)
In the second of the series Billy the kid, the most notorious figure of the wild west, is on trial again... this time the world's three leading experts, re-examining old evidence and pondering letters from Billy the Kid that have never been seen before, try to determine just how guilty he was, and whether the then governor of New Mexico, Lew Wallace, really had promised Billy a pardon, and if so, why? Was Billy the Kid the psychopathic killer history says he is or was he completely different from the legend that has built up around him?

The Gunfight at the OK Corral (2007)
The gun fight at the okay corral is, perhaps, the most famous shootout in history. In thirty seconds a new image in legend was born - the legend of the Righteous Lawman. But what was Wyatt Earp truly like? After the gunfight at the OK Corral Earp was not seen as a hero. He was charged with murder and put on trial for his life. Was he a 'Righteous Lawman' fighting for justice and equality, or was he just a ruthless enforcer, hardly better than the outlaws he condemned to death without trial?

The true and dramatic stories of the great figures of the American West! A time of notorious outlaws, gunfighters-turned-sheriffs and frontier justice, the Wild West has proved a fertile ground for stories of heroism and triumph over adversity to grow. From the most famous outlaw of them all, Billy the Kid to vengeful lawman Wyatt Earp audiences have been captivated by these legends. Blending fast-paced drama with the latest archeological, forensic and ballistic research, this series brings the truth to life. Was General Custer little more than an inept, vain man. The Battle of Little Bighorn nothing more than an attempt to further his career? Which side of the law was Wyatt Earp really on? And, find out why the Governor of New Mexico is today considering a pardon for Billy the Kid.

The Wild West of America's frontier and pioneer days have given rise to its most enduring legends. Focusing on the famous outlaws of Billy the Kid, General Custer and Wyatt Earp, audiences have long been captivated by these legends. But what of the men behind the myths - and the truth? This acclaimed 3 part drama-documentary series re-evaluates some the best known tales of the West, uncovering secrets and revealing twists more gripping and exciting than fiction could ever dream up... Blending fast-paced drama with the latest archaeological, forensic and ballistic research, this series brings the truth to life.
