Synopsis:
From the producers of London to Brighton comes a darkly comic award winning thriller, Crying with Laughter is the stunning debut from Director Justin Molotnikov and tells the story of stand up comedian Joey Frisk (Stephen McCole - Band of Brothers, Rushmore), whose life is on a downward spiral. During the most important week of his life, Joey finds himself battling a drug problem, failing to do the right thing by his family and under arrest for attempted murder. As things start to look bleak, an old friend, Frank Archer (Malcolm Shields) offers Joey some much needed help, but Frank has an ulterior motive and if Joey thought his life was bad before, he has no idea what's in store at Frank's 'special' get together. Crying with Laughter won the Best feature award at 2009 Scottish BAFTA awards and is a fresh, lean slice of British filmmaking at its very best.

A comedian's life suddenly takes some very unfunny turns in this independent comedy-drama. Joey Fisk (Stephen McCole) is a Scottish stand-up comic whose career is on the rise as he wins a growing audience for his sharp, cynical humour. While Joey's professional life is going well, his personal life is a mess; he drinks too much, snorts too much cocaine, bickers with his wife and child, and seems prepared to go off the rails at almost any moment. While trying to relax in a sauna, Joey meets Frank (Malcolm Shields), who he knew years ago when they attended Borstal together. A few days later, Joey makes a joke on stage about the unexpected and awkward reunion, only to discover Frank and his girlfriend are in the audience. As Joey tries to apologise to an offended Frank, the two set off on an all night bender that neither can remember, even after Joey's landlord files assault charges against them. When Joey is kicked out of his house and has no where to go, Frank offers to let him stay at his place, but Joey finds his old buddy has some interesting plans

Stand-up comedian Joey's foul-mouthed act has drawn attention from people in high places. Then, he tells a gag about an old school play, who just so happens to be in the audience, and things start to unravel.
