Synopsis:
From the time he was a high-school student in Lubbock, Texas until his tragic death at age 22 in 1959, Buddy Holly ignored the condemnation by townspeople and his conservative relatives and dedicated his life to the new music he became famous for performing: rock 'n roll. Gary Busey stars as Buddy Holly in this widely acclaimed big-screen biography and sings well enough on camera for the film's adapted musical score to win an Oscar. Among the classic songs by Buddy Holly and the Crickets which can be heard are: 'Oh Boy', 'That'll Be The Day', 'Peggy Sue', and 'Not Fade Away'.

The story of one of rock n' roll's first legends, Buddy Holly. Holly's career is followed from his high school days in Lubbock, Texas and his rise above the disaproval of his music by the locals and his conservative family, through his meteoric success with his band the Crickets, to his untimely death in a plane crash when he was just twenty-two years old.

The musical career of Buddy Holly is chronicled, from the days when 'Peggy Sue' was 'Cindy Lou,' a song about his first girlfriend, to the meteoric run of 'That'll Be The Day' up the charts, to his marriage, breakup with the Crickets, reunion with the Crickets, and untimely death.
