Synopsis:
A teenage girl steps over the line into adulthood during a summer abroad in this drama from writer and director Heitor Dhalia. Mathias (Vincent Cassel) is a successful French novelist who packs up his family, including wife Clarice (Debora Bloch) and fourteen-year-old daughter Filipa (Laura Neiva), for a few months of vacation at a beachfront house in Brazil. While their surroundings are idyllic, not everyone is happy, and Filipa is aware of the obvious tension between her bickering parents. The contentious relationship between Mathias and Clarice explodes when she learns that he's been unfaithful with the younger and sexier Angela (Camilla Belle). Filipa, who is all too aware of her growing attraction to the opposite sex, is at once disturbed and excited when she spies Mathias and Angela making love, and she decides to act on her desires for a handsome neighbor in his early twenties. A deriva (aka Adrift) was an official selection at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

It is the 80's, and fourteen year-old Filipa is spending her vacation at Búzios with her father, Mathias, her alcoholic mother, Clarice, and her two younger siblings in their beach house. When Filipa feels that the relationship of her parents is deteriorating, she snoops in her father's office. There she finds pictures of Mathias with his American lover Ângela hidden in a drawer of his desk. When Mathias and Clarice announce to their children that they are not going to live together for a period, the confused Filipa believes that Ângela is the responsible for the separation of her parents and discovers that the marriage of Mathias and Clarice is built on a bed of lies.

ADRIFT is the enchanting and moving tale of a teenage girl's coming of age. Young, beautiful and falling in love for the fist time, Fillipa has a life other kids only dream of. But when her seemingly perfect father is begins an affair, her life is turned upside down. With a stunning cast including Vincent Cassel (Mesrine: Killer Instinct), Camilla Belle and introducing Laura Neiva, ADRIFT encompasses the most extreme of emotions. From anguish and betrayal, to love and bliss. With breath-taking cinematography, it's one of the year's most enigmatic and captivating films.
