Synopsis:
A missing father returns to the family farm after five years absence. Along with the various transients drawn to the area for the annual season when the wheat turns golden he attempts to reconcile with his distant 17 year old son who has become withdrawn since the death of his lonely mother. Set on location in the interior of China's Gansu Province Red Awn inhabits a space of deep horizons and melancholic ritual in this unforgettable saga about the impossibility of reclaiming the past.

Drama focussing on the relationship between a father and son. Soonghai returns home to the countryside years after abandoning his family to move to the city. His son, Yongtao, is at first angry and had had him officially declared dead. However, after father and son begin to work together in a wheat field, the relationship begins to improve. The unexpected arrival of a woman provokes a violent confrontation though.
