Synopsis:

This Danish documentary celebrates the life of Karen Blixen (1885-1962), the author of Out of Africa and numerous other books, which she published under the penname Isak Dinesen. For many years, she was a coffee farmer in Kenya. Her husband was an adventurer with a well-known roving eye (Bror Blixen). Her most famous books concern romance and her life in Africa. This feisty woman gets to speak for herself in archival footage of interviews she gave on TV. In some of the interviews she discusses her encounters with celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe. The filmmakers discovered the interview footage while preparing another film, and found it so interesting that they felt compelled to make this one. Also included are interviews with people who knew her. This film has footage in the English language, as well as Danish and French.

Karen Blixen - Storyteller adds vital pieces to the jigsaw puzzle of Karen Blixen's (Isak Dinesen) enigmatic personality. The film includes hitherto unknown shots from the author's triumphal tour of the US in 1959, where she took part in several talk shows. A number of her close Danish friends also appear: Thorkild Bjørnvig, poet and author of The Pact about his friendship with Blixen, Aage Henriksen, professor of literature and author of several books on Blixen, Knud W. Jensen, founder of Louisiana, the celebrated museum of modern art, Nils Carlsen, who was a boy at Rungstedlund, and her sister-in-law Jonna Dinesen.
