Synopsis:
The smash hit sequel to Deanna Durbin's debut film 'Three Smart Girls', Three Smart Girls Grow Up saw Deanna once more taking on the role that made her name and singing her signature song 'Because'. Deanna stars as Penny Craig, the youngest of three sisters. When the handsome and debonair Richard Watkins (William Lundigan) proposes to her sister Joan, everyone in the Craig household is delighted except for Penny's other sister Kay. She was secretly in love with Richard too... Determined to help, young Penny turns to the family butler for advice. He says that Kay will forget all about Richard when she meets another 'tall, dark and handsome' man. Never one to duck a challenge, Penny finds just such a man to court her sister Kay - Harry Loren. Only Harry then falls madly in love with Joan... and everyone thinks Penny secretly loves Harry! Will the course of true love ever run smoothly in the Craig Household? Apart from the captivating 'Because', Three Smart Girls Grow Up also sees Deanna Durbin performing three other charming musical numbers 'Invitation to the Dance', 'La Capinera' and 'The Last Rose of Summer'.

In this sequel to 1936's Three Smart Girls, Deanna Durbin is back as the most precocious of a sister trio: the other girls are Nan Grey and Helen Parrish (replacing the first film's Barbara Read. Three Smart Girls dealt with the girls' efforts to reunite their parents. In the sequel, Durbin pokes her turned-up nose into the affairs of her older sisters, hoping to find suitable husbands for them. The musical highlight is Durbin's rendition of the old wedding-day standard "Because," which resulted in a bestselling record. In 1939, Deanna Durbin could have appeared in a film version of a seed catalogue and still make scads of money for Universal Studios.

Now that their parents are back together, the Craig girls think life is going to be easy. It is, until Kay falls in love with Joan's fiance! Complications arise when youngest sister Penny tries to find Joan a new boyfriend so that Kay and Richard can be together.
