Synopsis:
The central, though nearly impenetrable, plot of Sir Henry at Rawlinson End is Sir Henry's (Trevor Howard) attempts to exorcise the trouserless ghost of his dead brother, Humbert, whom he accidentally killed in a drunken duck-shooting incident. This is aided, or hindered, by his mad family and servants including the tapeworm-obsessed Mrs. E; Old Scrotum, the wrinkled retainer; the eternally knitting Aunt Florrie and Lady Phillipa of Stains, a turkey-legged old soak. With German PoWs in the garden, fishing for hairdressers, a mechanical bulldog, a horse in the billiards room, and a marriage bed furnished with a barbed-wire divide, the mayhem of Rawlinson End is endless....

Trevor Howard is virtually the whole show in Sir Henry at Rawlinson End. He plays an eccentric-to-the-point-of-insanity nobleman whose love affair with the bottle is a long standing source of family embarrassment. Still, when the family mansion is plagued by an unfriendly ghost, Howard finds himself the only one willing or able to exorcise the spirit. Sir Henry at Rawlinson End was based on a radio play by Vivien Stanshall. As such, it is more satisfying for the ear than for the eye.

The bizarre household of a drunken English aristocrat attempts to exorcise a family ghost, that of his brother, who was shot 'en flagrante delicto' and must be 'retrousered' if his spirit is to rest.
