Synopsis:

Best of Animation 4 has a wide variety of animation techniques, surprising stories and original visual ideas. The cult American director Bill Plympton is represented with a sardonic cartoon "Hot Dog" from his dog-trilogy again. Also full of black humor is the Oscar-nominated 3D computer animation, "This Way Up" by Smith and Foulkes from Great Britain, and the unique and surreal animated film on the walls of buildings "Muto" by Blu. Numerous other award-winning animated films from France, Germany, China, Denmark and Slovakia round out this compilation and show the best of the International Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart 2009.

This Way Up (2008)
In this quirky short, disaster strikes a father-and-son team of undertakers when a boulder squashes their hearse. They must then make their way across the country in a crazy travel caper with nothing but a coffin and each other to keep them amused.

Muto (2008)
A short film by Blu: an ambiguous animation painted on public walls.

Mister Cok (2009)
Mister Cok is the owner of a large bomb factory. Looking to increase his profit and efficiency, he replaces his workers with sophisticated robots. However, one worker does not accept the change so easily.

Office Noise (2008)
A short film about two very different colleagues and the tense situation that builds up as the tidy rooster gets increasingly annoyed with the clumsy elephant.

The Da Vinci Time Code (2009)
In the film The Da Vinci Time Code an image is taken apart in order to create an animated film from the fragments. Different parts of this image, based on similar forms, allow us to discover secret movements. The people in the picture eat, dance, discuss and argue, until they are finally all silenced.

The Winter Solstice (2009)
Shortly before he died, he dated his old lover once again.

Hot Dog (2008)
This is the third in the DOG series. In this episode our plucky hero joins the fire company to save the world from house fires and gain the affection he so richly deserves. Typically, the results never turn out the way he planned.

Skhizein (2008)
It's a story about Henry, who unfortunately gets struck by a 150,000 ton meteor, from that moment on, if he wants to move or do anything like answer the phone or sit in a chair, he has to judge his distance 91 centimeters (3 feet) away because he exists 91 centimeters from where he used to exist…

Birth (2009)
The animation 'Birth' is the second work of Signe Baumane. In her animation she manages to tell the problem of unwanted pregnancy in a humorous way, fully packed with creative, visual ideas, visual metaphors of situations.

Never Drive a Car When You're Dead (2009)
The awkward hero stumbles over a long forgotten piano. Music leads him from his run down existence out into the city life. There he plays a last funeral march to all the deadbeat figures on the sidewalk.

Rabbit Punch (2008)
Rabbit Punch pulls no punches in its treatment of an adult theme albeit the two lead characters in this tale of rural life in backwater England are adolescents.
