A Family Portrait (2009) Joseph Pierce
It's an awkward, uncomfortable moment with a family collapsing at the seams under the photographer's (and our) eyes. The surreal play on rotoscoping was earlier explored in Pierce's National Film & Television School graduation film

Horn Dog (2009) Bill Plympton
The main thing when wooing a beautiful lady is that things can go terribly wrong. Also, watch out for biting.

The Lady and the Reaper / La dama y la muerte (2009) Javier Recio Gracia
This animated comedy short from Spanish director {$Javier Recio Gracia} - which utilizes no dialogue in its narrative - tells of a diminutive, prune-faced old woman who longs to join her deceased husband in the afterlife. One night, in her sleep, she begins to cross the barrier from one world to another, as her hand slips into the palm of the Grim Reaper - but seconds before she makes it, she is zapped back to life by the paddles of a defibrillator, operated by a surgeon and a team of nurses. This ignites a slapstick battle between one side and the other, as the reaper and the surgery team compete to wrest control over the woman's fate.

Logorama (2009) Francois Alaux, Hervé de Crécy, Ludovic Houplain
An alternate reality where advertising has taken on a life of its own sets the stage for this satiric animated short subject. Logorama imagines a massive American city where practically everything has been replaced by some sort of corporate symbol -- the buildings are advertising logos, the people are characters from noted television commercials, and even the birds and insects have the familiar look of name-brand trademarks. However, life in this media metropolis takes an ugly turn when a certain well-known fast food mascot finally snaps and goes on a violent crime spree, with the police hot on his heels. Directed by François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy, and Ludovic Houplain, Logorama was one of the most talked-about short films screened at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Subject.

Love & Theft (2010) Andreas Hykade
Deals with a case of highly organised and substantial theft at work and shows how a hastily mounted, ill-prepared security check severely strains the relationship between management and unions and leads to the verge of industrial action. Intended for safety/security officers and personnel managers

Prayers for Peace (2009) Dustin Grella
Prayers for Peace is a narrative stop-motion animation confronting the memory of the animator's younger brother killed in the current conflict in Iraq. Drawn entirely with pastels on a slate chalkboard, the materials used to create the animation become a metaphor for the impermanence of life.

Runaway / Traine en folie (2010) Cordell Barker
The story revolves around a train as it begins to hurtle out of control. There are two passenger cabins, first-class and coach, with matching cultures in each. Barker is a true cartoonist, and the caricatures of each cabin are broad and funny. As the situation gets more dire a class-conflict breaks out, and according to press tagline while 'naturally there are victims, in the end everyone is equal.'

Sam's Hot Dogs (2009) David López Retamero
Sam is a happy hot dog vendor who doesn't understand why his pet bear wants cuisine that's a bit more lively than frankfurters in this award-winning short.

TXT Island (2010) Chris Gavin
TXT Island is a stop-motion film by Chris Gavin, who hand-crafted each frame using hundreds of plastic peg-board letters. The films follows the endeavors of a squad of letters, as they delve deep into the jungle of a mysterious island. What is their mission? And will they succeed?

YELLOW CAKE (2010) Nick Cross
Yellow Cake by Canadian animator Nick Cross tells the tale of a small town of happy little bakers driven to terrorism by the greed of their leader and cake-hungry fat cats, resulting in the town's ultimate destruction. In an interview with Slow Decade, Cross explains that he got the idea for the film in 2003 in light of speculation that Iraq was buying uranium powder called yellow cake.
