Synopsis:

Tom is forty. He walks out one day, rather abruptly, on his wife and baby boy and his seemingly happy life. He finds himself living on the streets of London. One night alone in a park he is mistaken for a gay man and is set upon by a gang of violent thugs. In A&E the next day Tom meets Aidan, the happiest, fast-talking individual you are ever likely to meet, the complete opposite of Tom. Too polite, or too weak to ask him to leave him alone Tom tries to get away from this child-like man but with little joy, Aidan sticks to Tom like glue. Tom reluctantly becomes involved in Aidan's life and he quickly realizes that Aidan has problems too. Aidan's 'girlfriend' Linda verbally and physically abuses him on a regular basis. Will Tom overcome his own problems in order to help his new 'friend'? Will Tom ever make it back home - and why exactly did Tom leave home in the first place?

Tom inexplicably leaves his wife and child, and finds himself deliberately down-and-out on the unforgiving streets of London. In a doctor's waiting room, Aidan, a motormouth with a curious lisp, jabbers away about nothing in particular to folk who couldn't care less. Much to Tom's disdain and discomfort, Aidan latches on to him and, with nowhere else to go, Tom finds himself in Aidan's flat, unable to escape the strange man's orbit. Aidan's girlfriend Linda is quite unlike her naïve partner, being streetwise and aggressive, and Tom witnesses their malfunctioning relationship.

Aiden Gillen (The Wire) gives an electric performance in this blackly funny British drama mixing the tender treatment of dysfunction in Rain Man with the bleak urban redemption of The Fisher King. For reasons known only to himself, architect Tom (Tom Fisher) has abandoned his young family and taken to the streets of south London where he forms a halting relationship with Gillen. As their bond deepens - thanks in part to a kitten named Treacle Jr - the story gravitates toward a conclusion that's as hard won as it is inescapable. Funny, touching and gritty.
