Synopsis:
The Lion and the Fly (1932)
These puppets are the wonders of life and truth and that's what makes the artistic merit of his work. You have to see the pride of the Lion in all its strength, appearance and casual ruffled fly.

The Town Rat and the Country Rat (1926)
The Country Rat visits his friend, the Town Rat, but finds that life in the great metropolis is rather too hectic (and dangerous - there's a live cat among all the puppet rats!)

The Frogs who Desired a King (1922)
The frogs have a democracy, but they beseech Jupiter to send them a king. Jupiter can hardly believe this amphibian foolishness, so he sends them a tree as king...

The Ant and the Grasshopper (1927)
The story of the improvident grasshopper who fiddles his time away during good times, while the busy ant stores up wood and food for the coming winter.

The Old Lion (1932)
A hoary old monarch, hobbling and bespectacled, remembers the happy days when he played Romeo with his lioness, renewing a tasty flashback scene from the balcony.

How Puppet Cinema is Born and Animated (1932)
Les Fables looks at how the films were created, with explanations by Ladislas Starevich and his daughter Irene in a short concluding documentary.

The Frogs who Desired a King (1922)
The frogs have a democracy, but they beseech Jupiter to send them a king. Jupiter can hardly believe this amphibian foolishness, so he sends them a tree as king. The frogs make obeisance to their new monarch, but they are dissatisfied and petition Jupiter again. Now he sends a proper king with a crown, a stork. Frog ladies and gents turn out to see the new sovereign and bring tribute. The stork starts to eat the frogs. They beg Jupiter for help. Jupiter hurls down lightning bolts, while the king continues to eat his subjects. 'Moral: Let well enough alone.'

The Ant and the Grasshopper (1927)
Based on the famous fable, this is the story of the improvident grasshopper who fiddles his time away during good times, while the busy ant stores up wood and food for the coming winter. When the snows come and the freezing and starving grasshopper asks the ant for help, he is turned away to perish in the cold.

The Old Lion (1932)
